Ulf Ekman Being a Catholic

Monday, April 20th, 2009

This is a debated issue.  It never seems to come to rest.  I just read something on a different blog about Ekman and the Swedish Pentacostal Clergy and higher people of office of and kind.
I wish people could see that it is not a matter of Ekman and others turning towards the Pope or the Roman Catholic Church.  What we are seeing is a very simple start of something much bigger.  I think that we are seeing the restoration of what we call Christianity.  Please see that the Pope does not sit on all the answers, neither does Ekman or the Pentacostals.  But in turning to a unity focused on Christ, will bring a deeper understanding, through the Spirit, of what God and the Bible is all about.

I long for the day when we have a full understanding of God.  I think that we are closer today than ever before.  I think that, just as Jesus cleansed the temple, and just as we can see a few periods of cleansing since then, we will have to see some cleaning in the presentchurch of today.  We do not need to worry about missing out on God, we need to worry about not being flexible enough when God reveals the truth for us.  Are we adapting to the truth in humility or are we sticking to the erroneous things of our past.

What we need is a teachable heart.  Please God give me a soft hear after your own heart.  Bend my ears to hear your voice.  Bend my mind to follow your will.

The Return of the Jedi

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

I was just watching the last minutes of The Return of the Jedi.  I have always enjoyed the Star Wars movies.  I am not very given to them.  I hardly know the name of the characters.  This episode ends with a father and a son trying to kill each other.  In the last minute, the father turns to save the son from the wrath of the emporer.  Darth Vader saves his son Luke Skywalker. And so on . . .

We drove up to Snowbird today.  It is a skiresort.  We love going up there, mostly for the scenic views of the drive.  It is very grand.
Yesterday as I drove to work I truly enjoyed the view of the SLC Valley and the mountains on the other side of the valley.  The valley floor was covered by bright white clouds.  Several hundred, maybe thousand, feet above thouse clouds were one more level of clouds, these were much darker and more dense.  The mountains in between these two layers where mostly covered by snow.  The morning sun was shining through the clouds at some places.  It all just seemed majestic and reminded me of what the throne of God must look like.

Ok, time to go to bed.
Be Christlike today.  One of the most common things Christ did was to help someone in need. Maybe the greatest help he provided most often was to impart knowledge.  Teach someone about the goodness of God today.

Why

Friday, April 17th, 2009

One might wonder why I question the meaning of baptism, communion, and other things that we take as tradition.  It is very simple.  As I have stuided a lot of theology and church/christian history, I have found a few interesting things worth mentioning.

With God’s promises, why does statistcs show that the Christian population is less happy, less successful, less healthy, and often more poor.  Why, and HOW, can people question the existence of miracles?  If miracles do not happen as often as they should, for example the miracle of healing, then there is a lot of room for questioning.

Joseph Smith, the main founder of LDS, Latter Day Saints of Jesus Christ AKA Mormonism, argued that the true church came to an abrupt end at the end of the apostolic era (as the apostles died out, so did the true church).  Church history will support this to a certain extent.  Church history does not support LDS, I am saying that it supports the fact that the church changed drastically in the first century.

What I discovered as I studied was that people fell away from the true teaching of Jesus Christ more and more.  People and the church lost the belief and expectancy in the supernatural.  The church started to replace supernatural elements with things that could be understood with a rational logic.  Baptism was no longer a supernatural “becoming” the likeness of Christ, rather, it became a public confession to demonstrate an understanding and belonging to the death and resurrection of Christ.  The Eucharist, communion, became nothing but a remembering celebration of Christ’s life, death, resurrection, and teachings.

Doubt had taken place that there could be a supernatural act and happening connected to a material manifestation.  The baptism, whatever kind, could not be anything more than what was seen and touched, and even heard.
The doubt in a spiritual/supernatural/mystical manifestation/happening in conjunction with the taking of the bread and the wine is stronger today than maybe ever before.  Baptism has lost all its glory.
This loss of faith in God’s awesome abilities and “almightiness” is showing in the lack of the fulfilling of his promises in our daily lives.
I argue that God has not changed.  He is the God of Genesis through Revelations.  He breathed, do you get it, a little bit of his breath gave you and I life!!! He kept the sun still for a few hours.  He made a man stronger than thousand.  I mean what can this God NOT do!  Well, you might think that he can do anything.  He is constantly limited by a strong force!  Your will, my will, your lack of faith and my lack of faith are all limiting factors for what God can do!

The God that, by a sigh, created life in Adam, is far more superior than what you and I can even imagine.  I want to re-discover what it is all about.  I want to discover the simple rituals of God that connects us with HIM in the way it is meant to be.  I want to see miracles today!

So, yet one more blog update!

Baptism

Monday, March 30th, 2009

So, I talked to a few friends the other day.  We came to talk about a lot of interesting things. One was baptism.

We came to touch on baptism of infants.  The argument was whether the faith of the parents and the minister was enough to save the infant through the sacrament of baptism.  And some seem to believe so.  I thought about it to find a match with this scenario in the Bible.  The only thing I can find is tied to circumsicion.  I am typing fast here since I gotta run.
God wanted babies to be circumsiced in order to be part of his covenant.  PArents and the minister conducted this act and the kids were included.  Why would baptism be so different from a God ordained form of “salvation?”

Extra!!! Extra!!! They are Kissing!!!

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

As I drove to work this morning I chose not to listen to Ulf Ekman’s audio book Tag och Ät/Take and Eat.  Instead, I listened to http://www.klove.com/.  It might be that they play some good music at times.
This morning, the hosts Jon and Sherry Rivers were amuzingly upset over the fact that their child, a five year old girl, had kissed a boy in school.  This kissed caused them to talk to the girl, they talked to teachers, and teachers talked to the entire Elementary group of kids!!
I might have missunderstood some of the things that were said so do not qoute me.
My random and spontanous thought about this is: What’s the big deal??  I have kids myself and I am not looking forward to the day our two girls and two boys start to date, their first kiss, and the asking for a hand in marriage… OFTA!
But I also remember being 4, 5, and 6.  I remember the innocent kiss/es.  Maybe I am over reacting in my think that the radioshow hostesses overreacted.  That’s whay I want to hear your take on it.  Is it ok for a five year old girl and boy to exchange a kiss while playing at school?

Thanks for today!

PS. Taking a break in the baptism writing.  I need to find a book that explains the history and development of baptism, but I cannot find it.

Baptism as Modelled in Temple Practice

Monday, February 9th, 2009

I remember watching a video while studying in Jerusalem.  We visited a museum right next to the temple area.  The video showed a young man traveling up to the temple to sacrifice.  He had to go through a certain procedure before he was allowed to enter the temple.
It was a procedure of cleansing.  He had to totally submerge himself under water in order to enter the passage.
This, for me, represents the baptism in temple time.  Also, in order to identify themselves with God, the people of Israel had to circumsice themselves.
Then one day, John the Baptist showed up, he was baptizing to repentance.  The Bible clearly mentions how John was batizing and how Jesus was baptizing as well, but it was not Jesus who did it but his disciples.

It is clear to me that baptism was an established practice and the people knew what it meant (the above is not meant to be proof of that).
Then, as Jesus are leaving the people behind to ascend into the heavens, he tells his disciples to baptize, to teach, and to make disciples etc.
Teaching is nothing we have a problem with, except for the fact that we are teaching alot more than what Jesus ever taught.  Making disciples might be an area we are failing in.
Did Jesus every teach on the baptism?  Did he ever instruct in the practice?  I take it for granted that he did not teach because he did not need to teach much on the area.

I wonder if it can be so that the baptism (as with communion/eucharist) is more supernatural than we dare to think.

D. Longshore commented on a previous post and he mentioned the Spirit baptism as well as the enormous act of faith it is to get bapized etc.

IF the disciples practised something else or if they knew something else regarding the baptism, how has it then developed?
More about that next time….

Love You!

Baptism

Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009

I would like to challenge your thoughts on baptism.

We generally baptise to identify with Christ’s death and resurrection.  Further, it is seen as a public declaration of belief.

I wonder, can there be more to baptism?  When Jesus told us to baptise, did he really ask us to do the above?

What do you think?

Who Knows? — Set the Bar!

Monday, January 26th, 2009

“Who knows?” is an expression we often use.  There are many expressions used to indicate that we do not really know the absolute truth in some situations.  I wonder, sometimes it seems like we do know the truth but are not willing to take the consequences of that truth, therefore we claim that noone can really know the truth.

Well, my bar for setting the truth is the Bible.  In the Bible, I think that the aboslute of the most absolute truth can be seen in the words spoken by the man Jesus Christ, our Savior, and God’s first born Son.
I want to make it clear that this is the bar, this is what sets the standard for this blog.  I will not research the Bible for everything that I write, I will not qoute the Bible in every post, but rest assure that everything will have its foundation in the whole Bible.  If you find that I am wrong in anything, please let me know!

Thank you and let the ride begin!

The Start of Something New

Monday, January 26th, 2009

I have now tried to keep this blog updated for a long time.  It is hard to take the time to write; hence the weak content at times.
I would like to make one more attempt to keep this blog rolling.  By writing about such things that are close to me and my world view I should be able to motivate myself even more to stay current on my postings.  Further, by declaring that this is a blog about my thoughts I do not have to argue that everything I write is true or academically proven.

Let me welcome you to my world of thoughts!

Recession and the Jubilee Principle

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

Recession and the Jubilee Principle

As you might have notices, the world is facing and is already in a recession.  One way this presents itself is right around the corner.  When we moved to this area, houses just like the one we are renting were selling for $250,000 or more.  Today, six months later, you can find the same houses (the entire development is a great multiplication of the same four house models) for sale at the extremely low price of $150,000!!!  That is a drop of $150,000 in six months!

Yet one more sign of a messed up economy, and absolutely a contributing factor, is the price of gas.  At the time we moved back to the U.S.A. in 2005, the price for one gallon of gas was about $1.40.  The past three years, that gas price has been rising to the skies faster than a space rocket.  Six months ago, the price for one gallon was close to $4.00, a couple months later it was close to $5.00.  About one month ago, the gas price started to go down.  In about one month, the gas price has gone from close to $5.00 per gallon to $1.40 per gallon!!!

The economy is weird.  The entire state of Michigan, specifically the city Detroit, is feeling the effects of the recession.  The auto industry has its heart there and that industry is hurting severely.

The problem: people cannot buy stuff anymore, businesses cannot buy stuff anymore.  Why?  Well according to some, because they do not have the CASH, according to others, because they cannot get more CREDIT.  The U.S.A. had reached the bottom of the financial bucket.  Lenders could not lend anymore and borrowers could not borrow any more.
The solution: Bailout-plan of $700 billion so that we can lend more/borrow more.  Let us dig the hole of debt even deeper so that the next time we crash, it will be even harder to get up.
I am not writing to state any reasons to this recession, I am writing to remind ourselves of an ancient tradition and principle.

The good old Bible talks about a year of Jubilee.  It talks about forgiving debt.  Hm… Forgiving debt?  Sounds crazy, who would want to forgive someone debt.  I can understand if God wants me to forgive my brother his debt of $5 to me.  But to ask that GMAC forgives all their customers their debt of billions of dollars, that is a little bit too much, don’t you think?

But let us look at this.  If a lending institution was to forgive its customers all their debt every 50 years, would it really be that bad?  Example: If you buy a house for $100,000 with a 30 year mortgage, you end up paying back around $300,000.  The lending institution has thus made a lot of profit on your purchase, with credit.  They should have the capacity to forgive all debt once every 50 years.  And I want to state that it is a good move for future profit.

Imagine that the average American has $10,000 in credit card debt (I have heard less and way more so…) and a house mortgage of $200,000, car loan of $30,000, and maybe student loans.  That is a monthly payment of A LOT of money.  I have not done any research but let us say that the average American family pays around $2-3,000 per month in credit, of which most is interest.  If now their debt would be erased, they would have $2-3000 to SPEND or SAVE every month, right?  Have we not now created an awesome Buying Power?

Long post, I know.  But think about it.  What got me thinking about this was my Father in Law.  He has been reading some heavy duty books on Economy etc.  He told me that a crisis like this has always happened around every 50 years.  I find that interesting.

This principle is absolutely the opposite from the Bailout plan from the Bush administration.  Would Obama have dealt with it differently?  IS it really the gread of the big people in Washington that caused this, or on Wall Street, or other Executives?  No, it is the greed of every person living right next to you.  It is the use of credit to get things that you cannot afford.  The one in debt is a slave in the hands of the lender… Does that really mean something?  Does it mean something to say that the love of money (stuff) is the root to all evil?

Enough for now.

I have three more blogs, more churchie, that are waiting to be written.
